testing...one...two...three...

hello to all! fancy this the first official blog of the blushing bride-to-be. thank you to my o-so-fab matron of honor for getting this site rolling. i did a quick bio on my love and our story, and now onto the posting! had i been of adequate computer literacy, i would have much more time to dedicate to my much anticipated (humor me, here) first post. alas....i am tech'ed out for the night.

fret not --- i promise words to come about the joys and stress of planning small-town nuptials. :) i already have so much to be thankful for. My wonderful (and patient and understanding and...) groom-to-be, my incredible parents & equally ah-mazing Brett/Louis clan have been helping and supporting us from day one. we are so very lucky and we are SO very ants in our pants excited to walk down that aisle and say "i do"!!

The Proposal!

What began as a routine drive to Minnesota turned into the LONGEST.ROADTRIP.EVER. we're talking time-wise and enjoyment-wise. It all started with the vehicle in front of us taking FAR too long to turn onto the first main street from the house. Yes. It was a long, long drive with mister antsy pants. We picked up Ethan Robert from daycare and situated him in the back seat with our sweet angelic Harvey. Then the fun began...accidents, detours, "Daddy, why are we stopped?", "Daddy, take another route", "HARVEY, STOP BREATHING SO LOUD", (cue Joel pounding the steering wheel) "I JUST WANT TO GET THERE". yes, darling...we ALL just want to get there. trust. :)

And indeed, we finally did. Five hours later.

Joel was very anxious to take Harvey on a walk since he had been cooped up albeit using an excessive amount of energy to move and breathe far beyond Joel's tolerance. Joel wanted to take Harv for a walk around Bush Lake -- a favorite place of his growing up. A place I had yet to see in Minnesota. Roxanne thought that we would like some company, and on cue, I agreed that this was a splendid idea! Joel quickly dismissed this saying that it was MUCH too hot for her to be walking outside. As we were walking to the car with Harvey, Mike tried to convince us to go to a DIFFERENT lake -- "I don't think they allow dogs at Bush Lake"..."why don't you just walk to the park and go to so-and-so lake?". Joel was getting a little exasperated and quickly reiterated that we were going to Bush Lake and started the car quickly.

And so we go. We walk Harvey around and meet a nice man swimming in the lake with his dog...Harvey had his own first swim which I found to be highly entertaining. Then Joel said we should walk some more and took me to a very wooded path --- I playfully asked if he took all of his girlfriends here. ;) He quickly said "No".

I am not much of an outdoorsy girl and we were hearing far too many noises and Harvey was chasing nearly every movement he saw in the trees, so we turned around and went back to the point. We sat down on the bench -- it is quite dark by this time -- and Joel let Harvey off his leash. I must preface this by saying that Harvey has more selective hearing than my darling, SO I'm a little leery of allowing him to roam about freely. Joel and I sit on the bench and talk and smile. And he tells me beautiful things -- which he often does -- it is one of the things I love most about him. So I tell him, too, that I love him and that he is my one. I also interrupt every other statement with "Where is Harvey?" "Is Harvey still here?" "Did Harvey go in the water again???"

And then the world stopped. As Joel put his hand in his pocket, went down on one knee, and pulled out a box that contained a ring that caught the moonlight. He asked me to marry him. I do not remember any of the other words he said --- I was completely and utterly shocked. And also the happiest I have ever been.

And I said "yes". :)
